Project Overview

EMS recently completed a full mechanical and electrical (M&E) package at Hyndburn Academy in Accrington, Lancashire. The project involved a complete upgrade of the existing boiler room, providing the school with a safer, more efficient, and future-ready heating and electrical system.

Scope of Works

ree

EMS was appointed to deliver a turnkey solution covering all aspects of the mechanical and electrical upgrade. The works included the full strip-out of the existing boiler room plant and infrastructure, followed by the installation of new high-efficiency boilers and associated pipework. Alongside the mechanical works, EMS carried out a complete electrical upgrade, which included new power supplies, switchgear, and modern control systems. The project also required the integration of a building management system (BMS), insulation works, full commissioning, and the final testing and certification required for handover.

The academy remained fully operational throughout the project, which meant that careful planning and coordination were essential to ensure there was no disruption to students or staff.

Project Delivery

The EMS in-house team managed the project from initial survey and design through to installation and final commissioning. A detailed site assessment was carried out to ensure that all systems were designed to meet the operational needs of the academy, as well as current energy performance and safety standards.

ree

Works were delivered in a carefully phased manner to ensure continuity of heating and electrical services throughout the project. Mechanical and electrical installations were carried out in tandem to allow for a seamless integration of systems.

ree

Once installation was complete, EMS undertook a full commissioning process. This included rigorous testing of all safety features, performance checks, and system tuning to optimise efficiency. The academy team was provided with complete operation and maintenance manuals, along with on-site training to support a confident and smooth handover.

Outcome

The upgraded boiler room at Hyndburn Academy is now fully compliant with current regulations and significantly more efficient. The school has benefited from improved energy performance and a reduction in long-term maintenance requirements. The works were delivered on time and with zero disruption to school activities, thanks to EMS’s phased approach and attention to operational continuity. The final result is a reliable, modern system that is easy to manage and maintain, backed by comprehensive documentation and training provided to on-site staff.
